Snow in the Park

Hello All!!!

As I have mentioned in the past, I have a love for photography. Moving forward, I will be showcasing more of my work. Currently I am a die-hard armature! While I love taking photographs, I have only ever really considered myself a novice hobbyist.

Hopefully, that will be changing as I work harder and devote myself to picking up the camera at least once a day!

I wanted to share with you all where I am at right now. Keep in mind these photos were taken this past winter. I have 0 experience doing photos for other people outside of my family for fun. I am a novice. These pictures, while I am proud of them, are my beginning. I am showing you all so that hopefully, you will watch as I grow.

In a few months, I hope to re-visit the raw images and show you what I have done with improving my editing skills.

All that being said, here we go!!!!!

A few months ago I had the pleasure of photographing my Bestie and her beautiful family. These lovely folks had me laughing and grinning and enjoying the day immensely. While it was chilly walking around in the snow for hours, the warmth and love between them made the cold disappear.

It started with a GORGEOUS sunny morning at Midlothian Mines Park where I captured these head shots. This is Rachel, she is the best friend a girl could ask for. Whenever I need a shoulder, she lets me cry it out and then tells me exactly what I need to hear to get over myself. She’s stubborn, and brightness, and raw emotion. Everywhere she goes, she lights up the room. Isn’t she stunning?

Rachel has a boyfriend named Kyle. You know that meme that says “There are plenty of fish in the sea, but this one here, is my fish, get your own fish”? Well Kyle is Rachel’s fish, so we all call him Fishy. Fishy is a plumber and enjoys working with his hands. Would you believe that he also loves Fishing on the coast?

Together, they are just too cute.

Rachel has two children. A boy and a girl. Her oldest child is named Hunter. Hunter is such a sweet young man. When I first met him he was just a kid, but has grown into one of the kindest, funniest, deepest teenagers I know. One day he is going to make an amazing husband to a very lucky girl. Right now, Hunter’s focus is on baseball and Xbox.

Hunter’s younger sister is named Charliegh. This young lady is appropriately nicknamed Sassafras. She is feisty and full of life just like her mother. Right now it means she has a tendency to push boundaries, but in the future it will make her a fantastic lawyer. Charliegh currently spends her days playing softball and enjoying all the things teen girls love. Also, I just have to add that her style is fierce and I am super jealous of the outfits she can easily pull off.

While these two are brother and sister, and can pick and fight like all of us siblings do, they also truly love one another. The love of siblings is unique and these two surely fit right into it. Their love for each other and their mother shined bright this day.

When we tried to get all four of them together for a few pictures, there were so many giggles and abundant laughter that we had to take these shots about 50 times. It was a great time for us all!

Rachel’s brother, his wife, and their girls also joined in on the fun. The youngest young lady was so intense. I loved taking photos of her even though she didn’t want to smile. This was my first time photographing kids this age and the sun was so bright!

I have never photographed a group this large before either. Getting the whole family to look at me and smile at the same time was a challenge, but I think these shots came out pretty well.

I had such a blast doing these photos. As a person who is new to photography, I am pleased with how they turned out and I feel like I am in a great place to start learning more about my camera and all of the editing techniques out there. I am ever grateful to Rachel and her family for allowing me to use them as proverbial guinea pigs. I know I have much more to learn about light balance and exposure, but I can promise you all that this is something I am passionate about and I am hungry for more.

I look forward to the future and hopefully more pictures of this amazing family as they grow.
